Beer Bread
This simple and tasty quick bread recipe and I usually use some of Howard's craft beers. A darker beer will make a richer bread, but experimenting is a whole lot of fun! Try different seasonings also - this is such an easy recipe, even if the experiment is a bust, all you've wasted is some flour and a can of beer. 2 1/2 cups self-rising flour 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 1/4 cup brown sugar 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon onion powder 3/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning 1 (12 fluid ounce) can beer 1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted Preheat oven to 375 degrees F . Lightly grease a 9x5 inch baking pan. In a bowl, mix the self-rising flour, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, onion powder, and Italian seasoning. Pour in the beer, and mix just until moistened. Transfer to the prepared baking pan. Top with the melted butter. Bake 45 to 55 minutes in the preheated oven, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack. Note: If you don't have self-rising flour, you can make your own. To make the self raising flour, add 1 tsp of the baking powder 8oz (1Cup) of plain flour and mix. If you don't have baking powder, you can make that too. 3 teaspoons bicarbonate of soda and 4 teaspoons cream of tartar. Note: You might want to omit the onion powder and italian seasoning and add 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives 3/4 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese. Back to Quick Breads |
